Reclamation Bonds

Reclamation bonds guarantee that a mining operation will successfully complete the reclamation process of the land following the end of mining.  The reclamation process involves:

  • Contouring of the land after mining
  • Replacement of topsoil or other approved substitute
  • Reseeding with vegetation or trees
  • Post-reclamation monitoring of above steps to ensure success

Reclamation bonds are generally considered hazardous, as the liability of the surety is a lengthy multi-year obligation, often lasting decades.  Both the Federal and State governments will require this type of bond.
